The U.S. military expects to have 20,000 uniformed troops inside the United States by 2011 trained to help state and local officials respond to a nuclear terrorist attack or other domestic catastrophe, according to Pentagon officials.

The long-planned shift in the Defense Department's role in homeland security was recently backed with funding and troop commitments after years of prodding by Congress and outside experts, defense analysts said.

There are critics of the change, in the military and among civil liberties groups and libertarians who express concern that the new homeland emphasis threatens to strain the military and possibly undermine the Posse Comitatus Act, a 130-year-old federal law restricting the military's role in domestic law enforcement.

But the Bush administration and some in Congress have pushed for a heightened homeland military role since the middle of this decade, saying the greatest domestic threat is terrorists exploiting the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.

President Bush and the Republican Leadership must have thought up this policy when they were eliminating down payments on federally backed mortgages to build a new Republican dynasty. The plan was to accomplish this by granting amnesty to millions of illegal alien Mexicans in their new houses. The Republican Leadership’s plan of giving criminals new houses and citizenship did not make them responsible citizens and Republicans; this was really a bad idea. The criminal illegal aliens defaulted on their mortgages and helped to cause a financial crisis. But enough on that, back to placing 20,000 US troops inside the country to maintain order.

This is Very Scary

First, it is a useless gesture and a futile one in terms of preventing terrorists’ attacks. Why use 20,000 US troops internally to clean up the mess and restore order AFTER the attacks while leaving our borders wide open for terrorists to enter the US with any amount of weapons they choose?

Since stationing 20,000 troops within the US cannot deter terrorism so long as we have an open border policy, there are other reasons to have the troops ready to act within the United States. The purpose of these troops must be to maintain and/or restore order by suppressing any internal dissent by US citizens.

Rev. Paul.
I hope we are wrong, but I see no other reason.
