Mexican Drug Cartel Corruption: More & More Moving North

Earlier, I reported corruption of our military and law enforcement by the Mexican drug cartels. Crime, corruption, conspiracy, bribery, and racketeering have compromised our military forces, state law enforcement, the Justice Department, the FBI, and our judiciary as reported here and here. I also reported on US and Mexican national policies and presidents promoting illegal immigration, drug smuggling, etc. here.

As everyone familiar with the "border war" knows, the drug cartels have long controlled all smuggling into the United States: illegal aliens and drugs. In reaching this level of control, they have corrupted formerly legitimate businesses and individuals as they have our local, state, and federal governments.

As reported recently source business is booming and the law enforcement authorities don’t know a lot about the details.

PHOENIX — Smugglers who bring illegal immigrants into the United States are getting crucial help from seemingly legitimate businesses that supply them with cars, lodging, plane tickets and other services, knowing full well what's going on.

SNIP
Authorities are unable to estimate the number of businesses helping smugglers but say the biggest concentration is in Arizona, the busiest illegal gateway into the United States. Immigrant smuggling in Arizona is believed to be a $1.7 billion-a-year business.

Businesses also are cooperating with smugglers in San Diego, Los Angeles, Houston, San Antonio and El Paso.

It is a familiar pattern by now. The general public has long known about it, the liberal press finally reports some details, and then the authorities state that it is indeed happening but they don’t know a lot about it and can’t do much to prevent it.

We hear the same old story over and over again whether it’s smuggling, illegal aliens, drugs, armed invasion of our country by the Mexican Army and Los Zetas, or drug cartels corrupting and taking over American businesses. The pattern is familiar and the processes are relentless as they move north, further and further into America.

I use the term “border war” to describe events along the border but the forces and conflicts are really nation to nation. The conflicts and struggles are between Mexico and the United States and are international in scope. Our sovereignty as a nation is at stake and we are losing the war along the border. We had a victory or two in the Senate, but the open border crowd will not give up easily when the prize is America.

LomaAlta - interesting post.
The idea that the government can't do anything about this network of businesses who knowingly help the smugglers is indicative of the lack of will to do so. We read all the time about the capabilities of government, using today's technology, to monitor people's financial transactions and movements. So it's hard to believe that in these cases, the government can't find out who is doing what in connection with the smugglers.

Thanks for the commment VA. you make some good points, namely that the government could solve the problem is they wanted to do so.

A good example is purchasing a firearm. You have to fill out a paper swearing you are not a criminal, illegal alien, etc. and then the dealer makes a telephone call to ATF (I believe) and they search their databases for crimes, mental problems, drug use, etc. and give the dealer a yes or no on the sale within 5 to 10 min.

In some cases the ATF has alerted local police of a criminal trying to buy a gun and they have arrested him during the 5-10 min telephone call.

The same thing could be done with all aspects of illegal alien hiring, assistance, and specified sales and services to them.

Our government is corrupt and does not want to prevent smuggling of illegal aliens and drugs. Off the shelf technology is available to catch and arrest almost all drug smugglers and illegal immigrants and those Americans who hire and otherwise aid and abet them
